Wacky St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations
For many, St. Patrick’s Day, celebrated on March 17, is a day to celebrate the patron saint of Ireland with some corned beef and a pint of Guinness. But some places have their own peculiar celebrations. Did you know that the Chicago River is dyed green every year on St. Paddy’s Day? In Hot Springs, Arkansas, you can find the world’s shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade — a whopping 98 feet down Bridge Street. Marchers include Irish Elvis impersonators and a middle-age troupe called Lards of the Dance. Residents of New London, Wisconsin get into the spirit by dressing as leprechauns and changing town signs to say “New Dublin.” Green beer and an Irish Elvis — now that’s a celebration!
