Racial ProfilingBy Stan StandridgeChief of PolicePursuant to Code of Criminal Procedure 2.132, the Department has a policy that prohibits racial profiling. Racial profiling is defined as a law enforcement initiated action based on an individual’s race, ethnicity or national origin rather than on the individual’s behavior or on information identifying the individual as having engaged in criminal activity. Our policy stipulates that sworn peace officers and non-sworn personnel are strictly prohibited from engaging in bias based profiling or racial profiling in traffic contacts, field contacts, asset seizure and forfeiture, arrests or any other law enforcement effort. Additionally, any person who believes a peace officer employed by the Department has engaged in racial profiling or bias based profiling, with respect to that person, may file a complaint with the Department and no person shall be discouraged, intimidated or coerced from filing such a complaint or be discriminated against because they have filed such a complaint.Police Administration takes these matters very seriously. Racial profiling is strictly prohibited. I have no comment concerning the matters in Florida . I do not have all of the facts. The Abilene Police Department is dedicated to working together to build a community of the highest quality for present and future generations. A cornerstone of that promise is to provide quality investigations regarding solvable crimes. We are committed to our community, and we must have the public’s trust to be productive. EDITOR’S NOTE: We want your feedback! IS this still an issue? How much worse or better has it become locally, regionally and at state and national levels. Your comments will be published if granted permission. Interact and strengthen the citizen’s voice! Tell us the issues you feel are important in the community so we can platform a better forum for participation and discussion!@5:00PM Rep-Published from the WTT Vault
