“As a former teacher, I am especially proud of House Bill 3435. While the global community has made an extensive effort in inspiring and engaging women and girls in science over the past few years, we are still seeing women and young girls be excluded from participating fully in science. Through ‘Texas Girls in STEM Day’, we can ensure that Texas does its part in helping women and young girls achieve their dreams.”
HB 3435 establishes March 1 as “Texas Girls in STEM Day”. Through the creation of a day for Texas women in STEM, we will encourage school districts, local colleges and local businesses to form partnerships and host special events which encourage local girls to consider the STEM fields as a career path. Additionally, “Texas Girls in STEM Day” will be utilized to honor Texas Women, past and present, who are excelling in a STEM field.
“It is time for us to recognize all of the great women in STEM who contribute so much to us and our communities all around the state of Texas. From now on, March 1 belongs to them!”
