Hardin-Simmons University faculty and staff members will welcome next year’s new students to the campus this coming Friday. About 600 students and parents will be attending the annual Spring Round-Up event, April 26, 2013. For students who have already been accepted to the university, Spring Round-up is the first opportunity for freshmen and transfer students to sign up for the classes they plan to take when school starts in the fall. In a large room in the Johnson Building, areas are sectioned off according to areas of study. Faculty advisors help each individual student decide on the classes they should take. When students leave Round-Up, they will have a schedule in hand and know what their first semester will cost. New students also get the chance to find buildings on their own, eat a meal in the cafeteria, talk to counselors about financial aid, and learn about all of the other things they can do on campus. {{more}}  Meanwhile, parents will learn about ways their students will be supported in their education by campus personnel and programs. Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tommy Brisco says, “The advantage of a 13:1 student to faculty ratio means that HSU is the kind of place where we can call each other by name. It is also a hard place for a student to hide. The biggest class students will be in could be around 80 people, but most classes are much smaller. That gives HSU a chance to nurture its students and equip them for life.” Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services, Jim Jones, says, this event will account for about one-third of the new students who will attend in the fall. The other two- thirds may attend one of two more registration events during the summer – Summer Round-Up for incoming students registration will be June 24, 2013, and The Last Round-Up will be August 5. Fall semester classes begin August 26, 2013. Students new to HSU are urged to attend the six-day New Student Orientation that begins Wednesday, August 21.
