While New Hope Church Pastor Chuck Farina preached his series, Pray for a Change, for a few weeks, the congregation actively was touching and hoping to help bring changes in the lives of a few people in the Abilene community. Feeding people who wanted to come out to eat was the purpose of the hamburger grill at the Las Brisas Apartment community by an outreach team last month. Residents were invited to the tennis courts to enjoy a hamburger. It was their choice to hang out and talk to the volunteer servers. Some people chose to accept an invitation to attend church, and to accept Jesus Christ in their life. The Easter Egg Hunt for the children was also held at the same apartment complex. “We have to be willing to carry the heart of God for the lost. Can you believe God can save Abilene in a day? God is looking for people who can stand in the gap,” said Pastor Farina. “If you want to see a promise in prayer, you have to continue in faith. Your prayer has power to change your world. God is looking for someone who will hear his heart and invite him to come and do something about it.” {{more}} On week three of the series, Farina preached the word from the book of Daniel; verse 6:20, sharing how faith and the power of prayer really worked when Daniel shut the mouth of the Lion. Daniel was supposed to be thrown in the Lion’s Den to die, but his faith through prayer was more powerful. The plan that God had for Daniel was greater than that of the enemy who tried to destroy him. “We are in a desperate place in our nation. We are going to have to come to a place where we have to say, “God forgive us,” Farina said. “We have to wake up to what is going on around us. If we don’t see a turnaround in our nation, there will be judgment to come.”  New Hope Church is located near Wal-Mart on Southwest Drive and next to the Logan’s Steak House restaurant. Sunday services are at 10:00am. The church has recently started a new small group series on Wednesday night, and the community is invited to attend.
