McMurry University Scores Well in NSSE Survey

ABILENE, Texas – Resultsreleased November 15 by the National Survey of Student Engagement demonstrate that McMurry University excels in the categories of SupportiveCampus Environment, Student-Faculty Interaction, and Enriching EducationalExperiences. The NSSE is the recognized benchmark for assessing the extent towhich colleges and universities effectively engage students in their education. McMurry scored higher than its peer institutions inthese three categories based on benchmarks developed by NSSE to reflect besteducational practices. {{more}} “The 2012 NSSE data tangibly confirm what weintuitively know, which is the critically important role that closefaculty-student interactions play in the best educational experiences,” saidDr. Paul Fabrizio, vice president for academic affairs at McMurry. “The mostrecent results of the NSSE student assessment demonstrate the commitment ofMcMurry’s faculty and staff to providing students with a comprehensive,all-inclusive education in a collaborative, supportive environment.” Specific areas that McMurry studentsgave high marks to in the NSSE survey findings included: • 94 percent rated their experience as good orexcellent and 86 percent of seniors would choose McMurry again for theircollege experience. • 89 percent feel that McMurry provides substantialsupport for the academic success. • 95 percent of seniors have discussed their careerplans with faculty. • 80 percent of students feel that their professorsare available, helpful and sympathetic. The 2012 NSSE report, which is sponsored by TheCarnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, provides information tostudents and parents in the college search process and gives campuses insightinto effective teaching and student learning.
