Sweetwater, TexasA third Lift Every Voice Event is being planned for the first Saturday in February 2017 at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium following the big success of the February 6, 2016 concert and reception. Jimmie Bender served as Event Choir. Lift Every Voice is a part of the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium’s APPLAUSE MUSIC Series. The APPLAUSE Music Series and membership support group was started in 2014 and has included an annual Black History Month event , called Lift Every Voice each year. APPLAUSE Director Mila Gibson was Founder and Director of Amarillo Opera a professional opera company. For the last 15 years of her 21 year tenure, she produced a Lift Every Voice Concert. She also presented Arts: an Alternative summer outreach programs at the Black Historical Cultural Center, Wesley Community Center, Buckner’s Youth Center, The North YMCA, the Maverick Club and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. {{more}}Devlon Jones, Amarillo gospel singer, and guest artist on the 2016 Lift Every Voice Concert, was a frequent artist on the Amarillo Opera event as well as an artist for many Amarillo Opera concerts and community concerts. Also performing on the Lift Every Voice Choir at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium was Guest Artist Robert Williams of the DFW area. Local Featured soloists were Annie Franklin and Mae Pearl Attins. Singers from Greater Zion and Mount Rose Baptist Churches formed a Community Choir under the direction of Walton Lyte from Big Spring. Walton Lyte and K.T. Butler, of Amarillo, provided piano accompaniments and inspirational music. A full reception was provided by the LEV Committee. Reception chair was Jo Ann Jones and committee members included Jimmie Bender, Eula Bender and Brenda Green. Event Sponsors were Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital and Robert and Jimmie Bender. Event Co-sponsors were Webster Williams and Jean Hyman. There were 14 generous Event Patrons and two Event Donors. The event was a huge success in every way.
