Kirk House – It’s all about Stewardship

A few weeks ago Alan Copeland came into my office and said,”Mr. Miller, you have to interview this guy I met today.” This young man wasKirk House, and Alan was right, this was a must do interview. Kirk is a 27 year old with goals, drive and ambition. He isfocused on doing good for others and himself. His vehicle is music, modelingand ministry. Kirk grew up in Gurdon, Arkansas, which is down the roadfrom Arkadelphia on Interstate 30. Kirk started college in Arkansas butfinished at Howard Payne in Brownwood, TX. He received a degree in ChristianStudies. He has used that degree to serve as a worship leader at Cross-PointeFellowship. Kirk has had a long standing interest in music. {{more}} He said that hegrew up singing in the church before he could crawl. Kirk said that his mamaand his aunt are his biggest supporters. Kirk started out as a singer but began to play the guitarabout 3 ½ years ago. His first guitar was one that a friend had stored under abed. He now plays a Paul Reed Smith or Fender. The Abilene market has been good to him. “Happy Tat” is onemusician that has helped him. Kirk plays at The Seafood Tavern on Tuesdays and ChelseaStreet Pub on Thursdays. However, if you want to hear him you should do itsoon. He is planning a move to Los Angeles. I asked Kirk why he decided to move to L.A. He said that ayoung lady asked him to play with her at The Roxie in Los Angeles. Once hearrived, she became ill, so he had to do the show by himself. As they say, therest is history. He has been blessed to continue to get gigs. Something else that grew from his L.A. connections wasmodeling. He has modeled men’s underwear for Ralph Lauren and Kenneth Cole. I wanted to know if Kirk had a message for young people. Hesaid, “Don’t let your upbringing or past deter you from your goals. Don’t letit dictate your life. You still have the ability to get whatever you desire.Strive everyday to achieve the goals that you have set. Start now, don’t wait. Ifyou don’t have goals, start making some.” I asked Kirk what he thought life would be like if he couldwave a magic wand. He stated, “Student loans would be paid off.” He would liketo have an abundance to share with others. “If you are not giving back it’s notworth having,” he said.Kirk said he wants to be a good steward.Stewardship is more than just money. Stewardship, according to Kirk, reallysums up what he wants his life to be about.
