Abilene – April 5, 2013 – This morning members of the 317th Airlift Group at Dyess Air Force Base are each receiving a donated coin decorated with an American flag and the words “Welcome Home Dyess 317th! 3,378 Days of Deployment.” “The goal is for the airmen to spend the coin in our community,” according to volunteer 317th Honorary Vice-Commander Scott Senter. “Every business who receives one of these coins has a chance to say thank you for the service of our men and women.” The coins are being distributed as part of the festivities surrounding Operation Return Home. {{more}} “This effort has been citizen led and came to fruition due to the generosity of those in the business community.” according to Gray Bridwell, Chair of the Military Affairs Committee of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. “We have a committee focused on community support of Dyess AFB. As other individuals have the desire to be supportive, we encourage them to work with us so we can help them navigate the process.” Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to continue to circulate the coins. “By keeping the coins in circulation, Abilenians can be reminded of the many days of service abroad which our men and women have been gone from their families and from our city,” said Scott Senter.
