Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award to Abilene Public Library

Abilene Public Library has received a 2012 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association . The award was announced in late January by this affiliate of the Texas Municipal League. Winners will be recognized in April at the Texas Library Association Annual Conference in Fort Worth. Of the 561 public libraries in the state of Texas, only 30 received the 2012 award. The citation from the TMLDA read, in part “The Abilene Public Library has demonstrated excellence in all areas required to qualify. Please accept our sincere congratulations to a library that provides quality services and programs for the continued education and personal enrichment of its citizens.” {{more}} “This is a tremendous honor” says Abilene City Manager Larry Gilley. “It is the result of their dedication to excellence that has resulted in our library receiving this well-deserved award.” The Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award is open to all TMLDA members and requires meeting set criteria in ten categories including such things as underserved populations, literacy support and collaborative efforts in the community.
